Immunology/TDM/Toxicology
The TDM/Tox area performs testing 24/7, for quantitative levels of most therapeutic drugs along with screening for abused drugs. This area works closely with the clinical pharmacists in monitoring the therapeutic drug levels of hospitalized and clinic patients. The testing in this area is most often performed using immunoassay methods. The humeral immunology area performs testing for the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune diseases, as well as quantitative analysis of immunoglobulins and other blood proteins. Methods used include immuno-fluorescence, immuno-diffusion and nephlometry. Routine thyroid testing as well as more specialized testing for other hormones like Insulin, Growth Hormone, FSH & LH are done in the Endocrine area using immunoassay and chemiluminescent techniques.
Metabolic Chemistry
The Metabolic Laboratory has provided services for Nationwide Children's Hospital, surrounding hospitals, clinics and private physicians for over 30 years. This laboratory provides testing for inborn errors of metabolism using established methods, including HPLC, Anion-Exchange Column Chromatography, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, and Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry.
